Roger Sloan

Biography:

Background: I was brought up in Holywood, County Down in Northern Ireland and trained at Edinburgh Medical School. I currently work as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Hospital. My training was spent in the Midlands with specialist orthopaedic training occurring at Oswestry, Birmingham and Coventry and Warwickshire. In order to fulfil specialist training in upper limb surgery I completed two fellowships in Derby (Upper Limb and Pulvetaft Unit) and The Melbourne Shoulder and Elbow Unit, Australia.

Clinical Interest: The spectrum of patients that I care for includes the entire upper limb from shoulder to elbow and hand and wrist including acute trauma. I am fully competent in all aspects of arthroscopic work for shoulder and elbow conditions. I also deal with degenerative, inflammatory and post-traumatic conditions requiring arthroplasty in the shoulder and elbow. Much of my work also covers the bread and butter conditions around the elbow, hand and wrist including tennis/golfer’s elbow, compressive neuropathy, stiff and contracted joints of the elbow and hand and degenerative and inflammatory conditions of the carpus of the wrist and fingers.

My outside interests are my family, wife Jo and 2 kids, rugby, all sports and music. I obtained caps for Ulster schools, Ulster Exiles, Ulster U20’s, Irish Schools, Irish exiles, Edinburgh University and Scottish Universities XV. I provide orthopaedic assessment and advice on upper limb injuries for Birmingham City Football Club

I strive to provide an open and personalised system of care where all patients are treated equally and as one would treat one’s own relatives. I am keen to provide a service with personal access, made easy for both referring clinician and patient.
